September 2016 Student of the Month

Trisha and Jim Regan

Regans-2016Please tell us a little about yourselves.
The Union has become a second family for us and to be chosen as students of the month is very exciting. We both grew up in San Antonio, although Jim is a Yankee by birth. Both of us were athletic growing up and through college, Trisha in San Antonio (cheerleading and karate) and Jim in Michigan, San Antonio, and California (Football and Track, really any sport). We both graduated with Psychology degrees that were never directly used again, Trisha from UTSA and Jim from Pomona College. Luckily Jim made it back to San Antonio after graduate school at Baylor. We started our romance ten years ago working at the same consulting firm, stealing kisses in the stairwell whenever we could, and have been married for 7 years. Trisha is the head of project management and office manager for a national sign company and Jim works in multifamily real estate investment management. We are an animal family, currently with 3 cats that run the household. We look forward to expanding our family in the years to come with both the 2 and 4 leg variety.
What brought you to the yoga practice? Crossfit? Bootcamp?
We both wanted to get healthier and reduce stress. Working out at your traditional “gym” just wasn’t getting the job done. Trisha always wanted to try yoga and Jim wanted to get back into crossfit. The Union was the perfect solution. We were hooked immediately. We love working out together and having a little competition in crossfit.
How often do you take class?
We typically take class 5-6 times a week and try to take as many as we can together. We often consider it date night.
What specific physical issues, if any, did you have before taking your first class?
Thankfully, we had none other than lack of motivation and discipline.
What are the greatest benefits of your practice?
There are so many, it is hard to pick the greatest one. Sleep quality, flexibility, recovery, healthier lifestyle, endurance, confidence...but, the greatest is that we now love working out. We cannot wait to get to class.
How has this practice changed your health and life? Any emotional or other benefits?
Our ability to manage stress has improved tremendously and we feel much healthier both mentally and physically. We believe that The Union helps us be the best version of ourselves.
What is your favorite part of the yoga and or Crossfit?
Besides the sweat, you can walk in feeling overwhelmed from work or life and walk out with a new point of view. The Union staff is one of the reasons why we keep coming back every day. Their motivation, positive attitude, and encouragement is what sets The Union apart from anything we have ever experienced. We love the variety of classes offered at The Union and we incorporate all of them into our practice. Sometimes, our biggest dilemma can be deciding which class to take. We both continue to reach new fitness goals and love when we are able to do something we couldn’t do the week before. We are thankful for the many friends we have made at The Union and we love sharing in their fitness victories as well. Life, in general, is better with The Union.
